In Oktober 2012 bracht mijn rondreis in midden-amerika mij naar een klein dorpje, Boquete in Panama, waar ik een fantastische klimmer en een ontzettend mooi persoon heb ontmoet, Cesar Augusto Melendez Castillo. Cesar is Panama's eerste klimmer. Naast zelf een geweldig klimmer te zijn met veel internationale wedstrijdervaring, vindt hij het vooral belangrijk de klimsport in panama te promoten. Voor Cesar bestond klimmen in panama niet. Hij heeft zelf alle routes in Boquete, Panama geopend en reist regelmatig het land rond op zoek naar rots om meerdere routes te openen. Hij is ontzettend gepassioneerd om de klimsport in panama te ontwikkelen en op de kaart te zetten. En daarbij wil hij graag de jeugd stimuleren om te gaan klimmen en enthousiast te maken voor deze sport. Hij neemt regelmatig kinderen en jongeren mee naar de rotsen om het klimmen te ervaren. 

Daarnaast zou hij ook ontzettend graag kinderen uit het weeshuis van Boquete mee willen nemen om te klimmen. Kinderen die weinig tot niets hebben en waarvoor klimmen een geweldige dag uit zal zijn, een moment om zich goed te voelen over zichzelf. Echter om dit te kunnen doen is er klimmateriaal nodig, en materiaal is in panama heel moeilijk aan te komen en daarbij ontzettend duur.

Mijn ervaring in Nederland is dat wij ontzettend veel klimmateriaal hebben wat wij niet gebruiken. Daarnaast zijn er altijd klimmers en kinderen die besluiten te stoppen met de sport. Ik zou het geweldig vinden als wij dit materiaal zouden kunnen verzamelen en op zouden kunnen sturen naar Cesar. Hij en de kinderen van Panama zouden ontzettend geholpen zijn en het zou zo veel mogelijkheden geven om kinderen te kunnen laten klimmen. En ook voor de weeskinderen van panama zou het op deze manier mogelijk worden kennis te maken met de klimsport en een dag de ellende te vergeten en zich goed te voelen over zichzelf en plezier te hebben met elkaar.

Graag zou ik in een aantal klimhallen in Nederland een verzameldoos voor klimmateriaal neerzetten zodat klimmers of ex-klimmers matriaal kunnen doneren. Dit kan van alles zijn schoentjes, harnassen, karabiners, setjes, touw. Deze verzameldoos kan ik dan elke keer wanneer vol ophalen en opsturen naar Panama. Gear4Kids!

In October 2012 my journey in Central America brought me to a small village of name Boquete in Panama where I happen to meet a great climber and very nice person Cesar Augusto Melendez Castillo. Cesar is Panama's first rock climber. Besides

 being a great climber with lot of international experience, he had also puts special importance to promote the sport in Panama. He opened the first existing routes in Panama and regularly travels all over the country in search of new rock formations to continue developing the activity. He is very passionate about the sport and work hard to develop it as far as possible trying to put Panama on the map of important climbing destinations. While he wants to encourage people to go climbing and create enthusiasm for this sport he regularly takes children and young people along to the rocks so they can experience the sport.

In addition, he would like very much to give this opportunity to children from the orphanage of Boquete. Children who have little or nothing, who have a desire to experience a great day out and surely climbing can allow them to achieve this, make them feel good about themselves. However to do this it is necessary to get climbing equipment and material that can’t be entirely covered by him, and in panama it is very difficult to get gear as well as incredibly expensive.

My experience in the Netherlands is that we have a lot of climbing equipment that we do not use. In addition, there are always climbers and children who decide to quit the sport. I would love it if we could collect this material and could send it to Panama. Cesar and the children of Panama would be really helped by it and would provide many opportunities for other children to be able to climb as well. For the orphans of Panama this would be a good way to have a day to forget any type of misery and feel good about themselves, have fun together.

I would like that in some climbing halls in the Netherlands, a collection of climbing equipment can be gathered in boxes so climbers or ex-climbers material can be donated. This can be anything from shoes, harnesses, carabiners, sets, ropes. This collected boxes when full can be send to Panama. Gear4Kids!

Arreglando tuberia de abastecimiento de agua para comunidad del Cerrillo, Panama

La comunidad del Cerrillo cuenta con unas 50 familias que hace algunos dias perdieron el abastecimiento del agua debido a un deslizamiento de tierra que destruyo la tuberia principal en un sector de dificil acceso.

Miembros de la comunidad recolectaron dinero (sin ningun tipo de ayuda gubernamental) para solucionar el problema por ellos mismos. Un buen ejemplo de la cooperacion mutua y unidad entre familias.

Una seccion de la tuberia pasa a unos 30 metros de altura asegurada por un cable metalico y anillos de metal. El deslizamiento arrojo rocas y una de estas cayo sobre el tubo principal fracturandolo.

Con equipo de escalada fue posible llegar a la fractura, cortar el tramo de tubo dañado y reemplazarlo con otro.

Con los amigos locales que insistieron en pagarme por el trabajo y lo cual obviamente no acepte. No creo que haya mejor paga que haberles podido ayudar.

Aprendi mucho de la experiencia y disfrute mucho el poder trabajar y ayudar a personas tan sencillas y buenas. La comunidad de El Cerrillo, un ejemplo de gente trabajadora y echa pa lante!
